I didn't see the show, and the link only talks about their problems conceiving - it didn't include the weight issue. If she really did feel that way about gaining weight why would she want to have a kid at all if she isn't open to the idea that she must (physically) change? Motherhood has its share of shocks, and those first gained pounds are just the beginning. There are definitely days when I am not thrilled that I come nowhere near to even a glimpse of being first on the list, but that's part of the package. Having a child is wonderful, but it's also hard. They are real people, not cute little accessories. To not want to gain weight in order to get pregnant - it's not just not good for baby, it's stupid for mommy. Those extra pounds are also for the mom's benefit. While pregnant, if baby can't get nourishment from all that "extra" weight it will start taking it from wherever it can - mom's bones, skin, etc. If she is able to conceive but refuses to gain extra weight she will be setting herself up for osteoporosis and who knows what else. I wish them all the luck, because I know folks who have struggled with infertility and it's not a happy time. But this still makes me sigh.
